The New York Giants have been participating in yoga with their instructor, Gwen Lawrence to prepare for the big game. Lawrence said, “Pro athletes of all types see that it will improve their health and longevity on the field of play.” All the rookies on the team have to attend Lawrence’s yoga classes, and the vets get to choose rather or not to participate. Many of the vets do attend the classes, including Eli Manning, who Lawrence complimented by saying he was “nice, smart, and really flexible.”
As one who enjoys both yoga and football, it was great to read about the two being combined, and if the Giants win the Super Bowl, yoga will likely become a regular practice for other football teams as well.
I think the Giants have an excellent chance at becoming the Super Bowl XLVI champions Sunday, Feb. 5, 2012, which is today. For one, they have been winning big all season. They did have a slow start Week 1, but they made a huge comeback Week 2 when they demolished the St. Louis Rams28-16. The Giants destroyed the Philadelphia Eagles Week 3, 29-16. They had some losses throughout the season, but overall they did great. Week 17, they managed to beat the Dallas Cowboys 31-14.
So, we are taking an already terrific team and training them for this very day with yoga, which is an excellent practice that has been practiced for over 5,000 years. Yoga helps stop injuries from occurring since it stretches the body and increases flexibility, balance and strength. It also has the ability to increase lung capacity, which in turn improves efficiency and endurance in sports.
The New England Patriots don’t stand a chance against the Giants. The Giants already proved they were better than the Patriots during their game on Nov. 6, 2011, since they won 24-20. While it was not a huge win, they still walked away the winners. As we wait for the game to start tonight, I will be cheering for the yoga practicing Giants to overthrow the Patriots once again. Not only do I believe the Giants will win, I predict they will win by a long shot this time around.
Who will you be rooting for tonight as you watch the Super Bowl? Will you be joining me by cheering for the Giants? If so, will you be hoping they win because you are a fan or because they practice yoga? I am hoping they win for both reasons. Go Giants!
